Should glasses sit on the bridge of your nose? | Lucyd
When you wear glasses for the first time , it may feel weird and uncomfortable — after all, you do have an object resting on your face.
As with many things in life, when you’re doing something for the first time, you’re likely to ask many questions. One question that may pop up is whether your glasses should be resting on the bridge of your nose or not.
Luckily we’re here to guide you to ensure you have your glasses resting perfectly and comfortably on your face.
What do you need to know about your glasses?
Ideally you want your glasses to sit comfortably on your nose. For this, you need to make sure that your nose pads are adjusted correctly and that the width of the frames and length of the arms is correct.
The bridge is the section of your frames that rests on your nose when you’re wearing your glasses. This should sit comfortably on the bridge of your nose — too tight and it’ll dig into the nose, but too loose and it will keep sliding off.
The nose pads are connected to the bridge of the frames and serve as support. These pads are meant to sit comfortably on your nose, keeping the glasses in place.
These are the arms of the frames and run from the front of the glasses, past your temple and through to the back of the ear. The length of these arms will determine whether the frames will sit correctly on your nose.
Ideally, the temples should be horizontal and touch the side of your head before hugging the ears. If the arms are too long, then your glasses will keep sliding down the bridge of your nose. However, if they are too short, then those will cause the bridge of the glasses to dig into your nose.
As the term suggests, this is the width of the frames from one hinge of your frames to the other. This distance will show whether your glasses are too narrow or wide for your face.
How should your glasses sit on the bridge of your nose?
Now that you understand the more technical side of things, it’s time to see precisely how your glasses should fit on your nose. Ideally, you want your glasses to sit comfortably and securely on the bridge of your nose.
For your frames to sit well, you want to ensure that the nose pads aren’t too tight. Otherwise, they’ll dig into the nose, leaving indents. If they do feel too tight, you can try to gently push the pads apart using your fingers.
However, you also don’t want the pads to be too loose either, as this will lead to the frames sliding down your nose. You can easily rectify this by pushing the pads closer together. Alternatively, you can pop into your eye doctor and have them adjust the nose pads.
Some frames won’t have nose pads, so the size of the bridge itself becomes important. If your frames are too small for your face, you’ll likely find that the glasses sit too close to your eyes. This is probably due to the bridge being too small or the arms of the frames being too short for your face. On the other hand, you may find that your glasses sit too far down on your nose. In this case, the opposite will be true — the bridge will be too big and the arms too long. If you’re wearing heavy framed glasses, this may also cause your glasses to slide down the nose. If either situation occurs, it’s likely that you’ll need to get a new pair of glasses .
